Camp Discovery at Woldumar Nature Center is a safe place for campers to make friends, learn about nature, and participate in structured and unstructured play. Woldumar’s forests, water sources, and prairies serve as our playground and science lab. Campers experience the excitement of science through pond dipping, bug catching, shelter building, bird watching, and fishing in an environment where questions are encouraged and curiosity is celebrated. Camp Discovery is also a place where kids get and stay active as we play classic games like soccer, capture the flag, touch football, and wolf pack. We are excited to have your family participate at Camp Discovery!
What to expect: To begin the week, campers are placed in counselor groups by grade level, with up to ten campers in each group. The counselor designs age-appropriate activities specifically for their own group, based on the weekly theme. A brief outline of planned activities will be available on Monday morning. Daily activities include hikes, games, crafts, nature lessons, teambuilding, exploration and nature discovery!
What to bring: Each day, campers should dress for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring a water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellant, a sack lunch (for full-day campers), and a smile! Michigan summers can be HOT! Please pack a swimsuit and towel for water play and bring a backpack to carry it all.
Some items to leave at home include trading cards, personal electronics, and anything else that may distract from camp activities.
